ABOUT
OUR CHAPTER: EDITOR NEEDED
Funeral
Consumers Alliance of the Piedmont is looking for a volunteer editor to
plan,
write, produce and distribute our quarterly member newsletter, The
Advocate.
The
ideal candidate would be someone who is able to:
- Attend some or all of our bimonthly board
meetings as a
means of identifying topics that need to becovered in the next
newsletter.
- Write well in a simple, direct style.
- Create both print and PDF versions of a
newsletter. We offer
an orientation and have materials to assist the editor, but some
experience in
producing publications for print and online is important.
- Communicate via email with board members,
including
attaching documents and downloading documents received via email.
- Establish a schedule and be self-directed about
meeting
deadlines.
- Encourage others to contribute content to the
newsletter,
yet be prepared to write most or all of the content as needed.
- Be receptive to others’ suggestions for changes
to drafted
articles and be able to work with contributing writers to prepare well
written
articles.
- Commit to at least one year of service.
The Advocate was recently
redesigned into a very basic one column format, so that the volunteer
editor
does not need to have experience working with multiple columns.
This
would be an ideal volunteer position for a college-level communications
major
looking for relevant work experience or a retiree who has had basic
experience
with producing simple newsletters for organizations.
Although
we cannot pay for this work, we will offer a complimentary membership
to the
chapter. Membership is open to any consumer in the Piedmont whose
household has
no financial stake in the funeral industry.
If
you would like to discuss this volunteer opportunity, please email the
current
Editor, Holly Stevens, at holly_stevens@mac.com. |
